Kentucky Stonehenge-Munfordville, Kentucky

Located in the countryside near Munfordville, Kentucky Stonehenge is a fascinating and unconventional attraction created by former mayor Chester Fryer. Over several years, Fryer gathered and transported large boulders from more than 1,000 acres of surrounding farmland to construct his own interpretation of the ancient monument Stonehenge.

While not an exact replica, the formation closely follows the general layout and alignment of the original, with stones positioned to reflect the cardinal directions. During the summer solstice, sunlight passes through the structure in a way that highlights its intentional design, offering a quiet but striking visual experience.

Beyond the central stone circle, the property features a variety of additional displays that reflect Fryer’s personal interests, including spiritual and symbolic installations such as the Garden of Gethsemane, the Tomb of Christ, and areas dedicated to Earth mysteries and natural elements. These additions give the site a layered meaning that blends creativity, faith, and curiosity, about ancient cultures.

Open to the public at no cost, Kentucky Stonehenge stands as a testament to one man’s vision and determination, offering visitors a peaceful, thought-provoking stop just off interstate 65 that feels both local and unexpectedly timeless.
